My Default Keybindings - Emacs Commands in OS X

10 Jan 2012

I've been flirting with emacs lately and I've immediately enjoyed that many navigation commands translate to both OS X terminal as well as cocoa applications. Here are a few simple configurations that can bring over more commands.

Meta keyboard commands in applications are not supported by default though they can be configured by the user. Apple's documentation Text Defaults Bindings provide a few of the missing keybindings. For terminal, meta can be enabled in preferences, settings, "Use option as meta key."

To mimic repeating commands the text system default NSRepeatCountBinding default can be set to ^u.
